Christian Sterling's American Parable takes place in the American South in a time when gangs hold more power and influence than top politicians. The story follows three major gangs, initially enjoying peace and civility after a brutal war that devastated each club - but does peace ever last long?Sterling's first-person point-of-view sucks the reader deep into the minds of each character, giving us a unique perspective and understanding that the characters themselves do not possess. While at first I felt the characters were a bit soft, Sterling's writing reveals that none of these characters want to be THOSE kinds of guys. The term "gang" is used loosely, but it's important to differentiate that each club simply wants to take care of their own. Each character is reluctantly drawn into a new war that none of them wants to participate in.
Sterling gives each character their own unique dynamics, and you're sure to have your favorite (Allen for me!). The writer's sense of humor shines through, but a somberness is also present that adds a moving weight, leaving the reader to experience emotions on every end of the spectrum.
Underlying the story is a secret organization that silently pulls all the strings that make the world go 'round (including deciding who the President will be!). Sterling is intentionally vague about this group, feeding the reader only small tidbits now and then. Where will the story go?? We shall see!

Ashes and Embers American Parable Book 1 edition by Christian Sterling Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Fantastic read! A lot of thought provoking symbolism to the current state of affairs in the US, especially as it relates to race. It was very easy to get swept away in the story, as every chapter packs a punch. The very definition of a page-turner.
Loved it!! I’m usually hesitant to try out indie authors, but I’m so glad I took the chance on this. It’s a very difficult book to put down, as the story never slows once it gets rolling. I was left wanting more as soon I finished. Loved the characters too!!
An intriguing tale set in the southern US in a post-war society ruled by rival gangs and mysterious power-players instead of the government, American Parable is Sons of Anarchy meets dystopian morality play.
Enjoyed every page of this book. Chapters devoid of action or tension are filled with great character development and humor. The characters really come to life, each with a distinct voice and personality. The story itself is quite original, making it a new personal favorite of mine.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ashes and Embers and look forward to reading the next installment in the series. Great characters, lots of action, and romance , a real page turner
I tried to get lost in this book but gave up after reading 60% of it. I did not find the characters appealing in any way and became tired of the rival gangs preparing for war, real or imagined. It just wasn't my type of story.
So glad this book was recommended to me! Although slow at first, the story snowballs and by the end you’re left craving more. A little insight - the book details the ongoings of three fictional gangs in the United States, each storyline connected in one way or another which I thought was really awesome. I laughed, I cried, and now I can’t wait for the next release in the series!! Can’t recommend enough!!
