Good read. But I found myself skipping over some of the intense scientific bits. Having said that I'm a hard core pervy nerd and this really did hit the spot for me in so many ways (waggles eyebrows suggestively) but i definitely had to be in the mood to read about string theory. I really enjoyed the realistic emotions that the main character went through with the romantic bits. Any time someone goes against social constructs there is bound to be inner friction which I appreciated experiencing with character. The multiple love interests feel organic and unforced. The book is slow moving and smoldering. Surprisingly good. Will definitely be reading this series. Also on a technical level...the editing was good....lower than normal spelling and grammar mistakes. Which is surprisingly common in so many books. Good job Hadley.Tags : The Kiss of Death (The Demons' Muse Book 1) - Kindle edition by Auryn Hadley. The Kiss of Death The Demons' Muse Book 1 edition by Auryn Hadley Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Wow I absolutely loved this book. 700+ pages of amazing storytelling. After reading this book I know that this series will definitely make my list of favorite RHs!! Sia is a fantastic character who has had a rough life but definitely doesn’t let that bring her down! She isn’t jaded or dark like most FMCs tend to be when they have a bad upbringing. Despite it, she is optimistic and driven to change her life and make it the best it can be! She is so likable! The mythology in this story is super unique and interesting, a new take that I haven’t seen before in books about demons/angels. I really enjoyed the story and loved all the characters! I can’t wait to read the next book and will be eagerly awaiting it!
Sienna is obsessed with Death. Not dying but Death himself. Wrong place, wrong time. Sienna's life is about to be cut short when she is saved by Death. The doctors tell her it was hallucinations brought on by the trauma and the pain meds but four years later, Sienna can still recall how his eyes looked, the shade of his skin, and exactly how his lips felt against hers. Since that experience, however, Sienna's artwork is dominated by sketches of Death and by drawings so realistic that they actually fall off the page. So Sienna enters college with her secret but she's already captured attention. She's wanted. Some want to save her for her powers; others only want to use her. Sienna must quickly decide if she can trust her heart, her mind, herself.
The world is not what we have been taught. Religion, Demons, Angels are not what humans think they are. If you are devout, this is NOT the book for you. The twist on Christianity will be offensive to you. For me, The Kiss of Death is a fantastically creative adventure. The characters; Sienna and her Legion, Nick, Sam, Luke, Bel are all fully developed and likable. Sienna's character can be a bit inconsistent. Fierce one moment, weak the next but it seems natural considering the circumstances. Her trust level swings back and forth too much for the situation she is facing, one minute she's all in the next, she won't take advice but again everything moves so quickly for her, I guess it's understandable. Nick is a great blend of strength and vulnerability; Sam is the perfect easy-going flirt; Luke takes warming up to but is a good guy, and Bel, the oversized teddy bear, is a fish out of water having been asleep for so long. There is the history of M/M, one kiss, and the promise of more to come in the future. The RH is unique in this book because Sienna (Sia) is only with Nick but it's established that the Legion is hers for when she is ready. It's an interesting dynamic all the way around.
The story itself was very entertaining. I loved the pace of the story; it escalates quickly. I thought it did lose momentum when the focus shifted too much to the paths but it would quickly get back on track with the return to the character's interactions. I love Nick and Sia together. It felt a little contrived at times to keep removing Nick so that Sia spent time with Luke and Sam. Overprotective Nick didn't seem like he would disappear for such lengths. I felt like there could have been a better way to connect Sam and Sia. Luke felt more natural. And Bel's inclusion was simply hysterical each step of the way.
The book leaves off at a good place and doesn't really leave the reader in a bad spot. There is still so much story to be told. I'm excited to see where book two takes us.
Oh. My. Gosh. Finally! A fresh take on the reverse harem genre. I was starting to loose hope with this genre, as all the protagonists in RH are built around the same tropes-- but I'm happy to report, you're in for a surprise. Not only is Kiss of Death layered with complex issues and surprising depth, but the men are not your typical mix of bold, shy, quiet, and rebellious-- these guys are as complex as the plot, and an even mix of personalities. Loved the story line as well as all the characters. I wish all writers could world-build as well, offering readers a manageable series of alternate worlds, characters, and subplots.
Fresh, and exciting read- fast paced enough to hold you at the edge of your chair, steamy enough to make you squirm in your seat, and layered enough to tease your brain with the possibilities!
